5th Band Schedule (TBD)
School supplies for Band:
The school can no longer provide basic band supplies in the band office. You MUST have reeds, oil, swabs, etc., for your instrument to work properly.
If you need to buy supplies for the beginning of school, click below for suggestions for most instruments. (There is no information for percussion, but they need their percussion "backpack" for lessons.)

Percussion link:
These links will provide more practice for snare drum playing. They go along with Alfred Drum Method Book 1, or "The Blue Book." These are supplements to the Red Book:

Elementary band expectations
Fifth grade band students typically meet once a week. Band students must have their instrument and music for every lesson.
Attendance, assignments, & grading
I use Synergy gradebook to keep track of attendance, practice minutes, and preparedness. Students are graded on the following scale:
Attendance with all materials: 50% of grade
Practice minutes and/or assignment: 30% of grade
"Free grade": 20% (this curve, I have found, makes students' grades more accurate)
Students earn five points at each lesson. If they forget materials, they can only earn 4 points. If they do not show up to lessons at all, they earn zero points. I would rather have a student show up and sit with the group with no instrument than skip the lesson.
Students will be required to practice at home and record their minutes. Each book has a place to record practice minutes. (If not, you can print a new one from the practice record link below.) Students should practice 80 minutes each week.
Students will be given lesson schedules, and I will also post them on this webpage.

Concert attendance
Concert attendance is required. If you miss a concert as a high school student, your quarter grade will drop TWO letter grades.
Concert attendance is more important than a grade. When a student is part of an ensemble, their absence changes the ensemble, and influences all their peers. Please plan accordingly so you can take part in every concert.

Concert attire
Elementary band students simply need to dress up for concerts. All concert attire must conform to the school dress code.
